Spring arrival records are right on from last year for the Louisiana Waterthrush at three survey points, and two Yellow-throated Vireos this weekend. A single Nashville Warbler was sited with gray head, white eye ring, yellow throat and underside, and bobbing tail habit. More White-eyed Vireos are showing up as well.
Cavity nesters are in full swing as evidenced by a pair of Carolina Chickadees and Black-crested Titmice nesting in one utility pole south of the overlook structure near the headquarters. The chickadees are in the top most cavity and 6 feet below the titmice are residing.
Trees are leafing out including the Box Elder along the river, Spanish oaks and Cedar Elm. This year the buckeye flowers are attracting the Pipevine Swallowtail Butterfly over any other species insect of avian.
