The Golden-cheeked Warbler territory I have been checking on has yet to turn up a nest. I am finding all kinds of Juniper bark nests, most too large for this species.
I really planned on doing my bird survey this morning but the weather radar showed a few small rain cells passing over Blanco County so I passed today. As it turned out Pedernales Falls State Park did not receive any rain today.
Before embarking on my weekly backpack hike along the pipeline trail I stopped in the bird blind to refuel and watch the activity. There definitely was a fallout of birds from yesterday's storms. Most notably were a handful of male Indigo Buntings, plus one male Painted Bunting.
At 5 PM I embarked on my weekly backpack hike along the Pipeline trail. Just over a month to go before my Mt. Shasta ascent so hiking the pipeline is imperative. I flushed up a first of the year Common Nighthawk near the highest ridge along the trail.
Sunday morning I will return for what promises to be a great bird survey day during the peak of spring bird migration.
